2018 Clos de la Roilette Fleurie "Cuvée Tardive"
Review Date: 10-18-2019
For the very first sniff of the glass you know this is something special! Crushed geranium, Asian spice, licorice and macerated cherry aromas spring from the glass. The palate is rich and velvety with floral and spice notes as well as intense berry fruit. This complex and powerful red is a fantastic wine and is a great example of what height Beaujolais can reach.

2018 Bonpas "Dames de Bonpas" Côtes du Rhône-Villages Plan de Dieu
Review Date: 10-16-2019
I absolutely adore the nose on this wine! It is a beguiling array of red berry fruit, pipe tobacco, marzipan and forest floor aromas and translate to a lively palate of raspberry, white pepper, dried meats, sun-dried tomatoes and bitter chocolate flavors. Firm tannins and good acidity give this a wine fine structure and great length as it holds court on your palate. A very impressive wine for the amazing price of only $12.99. This may be the best value I have tasted from the Rhone Valley this year.

2016 Domaine du Bicheron Bourgogne Rouge
Review Date: 10-16-2019
The search for the Holy Grail can end!! We've discovered a fantastic Bourgogne Rouge for under $25. I wasn't sure it was possible either, but the proof is in the glass. Aromas of pure berry fruit and earth spring from the glass while the palate is alive with fresh red berry, red delicious apples, licorice and spice flavors. The finish is long and lush with one final burst of fruit and flavor. This is guaranteed to sell out almost immediately, I suggest you jump on this amazing deal!!

2017 Domaine de Vauroux Chablis 1er Cru "Montee de Tonnerre"
Review Date: 10-11-2019
Montee de Tonnerre is my favorite vineyard thanks to its close proximity to the Grand Crus. Oftentimes you get a similar drinking experience from the Montee de Tonnerre as a Grand Cru for a fraction of the price. This is definitely the case here, the 2017 Domaine de Varoux Chablis 1er Cru Montee de Tonnerre has white flower, spice and citrus notes with an electric palate of poached lemons, iodine, lychee and apple. Great balance and excellent persistence make this a wonderful Montee de Tonnerre.

2017 Sattler Zweigelt Burgenland
Review Date: 09-26-2019
In the past a lot of Austrian reds were hard and tannic. Not anymore. Most are lively, zesty, and easily approachable. The 2017 Erich Sattler Zweigelt is a delicious little red wine that way over-delivers, considering its price. The nose is loaded with red and black fruits and spice notes, and the palate is rich and inviting, with berry fruit, licorice, and Asian spice flavors. A prime match for pizza, pasta, or burgers, this wine is a great compromise when trying to decide between Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir.

2017 Rosi Schuster Rotberger (Zweigelt) Burgenland
Review Date: 09-25-2019
One of my favorites Austrian reds right now, the 2017 Rosi Schuster Blaufränkisch starts off with heady aromas of sour cherry, black licorice, Amaro, and spice. On the palate, red fruits dominate, and then give way to a cool rush of menthol and spice. This wine is sleek and elegant, and can pair with a wide variety of cuisines.

The 2017 Domaine du Vissoux Pierre Marie Chermette Moulin-a-Vent "Les Trois Roches" is a beguiling wine. The aromas are simply stunning with hints of crushed geraniums, red fruits, exotic spice and a slight not of volcanic rock this wine hints at greatness merely from a whiff from the glass. The palate confirms it as it pulsates with electricity and vibrancy with flavors of red fruits, bitter chocolate and marzipan. A standout wine form the fabulous 2017 Beaujolais vintage!!

2017 La Chablisiènne Chablis 1er Cru "Montée de Tonnerre"
Review Date: 09-03-2019
When I think about what I want from a 1er Cru Chablis the 2017 La Chablisienne Chablis 1er Cru "Montee de Tonnerre" ticks every box and then some. The nose is electric with aromas of Meyer lemons, crushed oyster shells and orchard fruits. The palate is jumping with zesty acidity, intense citrus flavors and a long, long finish. The Montee de Tonnerre vineyard is but a stone's throw away from the Grand Crus and it shows.

2017 Chateau de la Maltroye Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru "Chenevottes"
Review Date: 08-16-2019
There's been a lot of talk regarding the rising prices of white Burgundy, accompanied by a lot of hand-wringing. To be able to drink this kind of quality from a top 1er Cru site for under $60 is a godsend. Powerful, rich, structured, and brimming with waxy yellow fruits and tropical notes, this zesty, layered masterpiece is a wonderful insight into the greatness that is the 2017 white Burgundy vintage.

Limpid red in the glass with aromas of freshly macerated strawberries and wild sour cherry. Amazingly youthful on the palate this 21 year-old Burgundy shows depth, power and precision with firm tannins and lovely red fruit. This can easily go another 10+ years but is drinking great right now.

2017 Olivier Leflaive Bourgogne Blanc "Les Sétilles"
Review Date: 07-24-2019
The 2016 Setilles flew off our shelves thanks to a 91-point score and it happened to be one of the featured wines poured at the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. However, I prefer the 2017. It is a bright, energetic white with zesty flavors and aromas of lemon, orchard fruits, and a touch of salinity. Perfectly balanced with just a hint of oak, this complex, everyday white should be snatched up by the case! Sourced 50/50 from Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault, this is a stunning white wine value and a worthy successor to the delicious 2016!

2017 Julien Schaal "Schoenenbourg Gypse" Riesling Grand Cru Alsace
Review Date: 04-26-2019
Out of all of the 2017 Schaal Rieslings the "Schoenenbourg Gypse" Riesling Grand Cru is my favorite. The balance between petrol, saline and flinty-ness with intense orchard fruit flavors is spectacular. There is so much energy in this wine it almost crackles on your palate. The nose is enticing, the palate is lively and the finish deftly lingers as each flavor echoes then slowly fades away like waves crashing and retreating from the shoreline. To be able to get an Alsatian wine of this quality for under $20 is a no-brainer buy as it gets!

2016 Domaine La Barroche "Signature" Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Review Date: 03-07-2019
Young Julien Barrot of Domaine la Barroche is a name to remember, only in his 30s he is already becoming world-renowned for fashioning some of the greatest young Chateauneuf-du-Papes currently available in the market. The Signature is stunning from the very first sniff from the glass where aromas of Asian spice, marzipan, baker's chocolate and cassis liqueur all slowly rise from the glass. The palate is alive with flavors of blackberry and cassis jelly buffered by lively acidity and fine tannins. The finish is long and supple with spice and berry flavors slowly fading away in perfect harmony.

2014 St. Jean du Barroux "La Pierre Noire" Côtes du Ventoux
Review Date: 02-19-2019
A more serious offering the 2014 La Pierre Noir is a blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah with a nose of lead, pepper and black fruits. The palate bursts with spices and an array of berry fruits that run the spectrum from boysenberry all the way to black currant. The finish here is stupendous, with a soft echo of spice and black fruits that lingers on the palate for 45+ seconds before slowly disappearing from the back of the tongue. Bravo! This is a wonderful homage to the heights that can be achieved in Ventoux.

2016 Joseph Drouhin Côte de Beaune Villages
Review Date: 11-21-2018
I was lucky enough to have a wonderful sit-down tasting with Véronique Drouhin, who graciously poured an array of amazing offerings while providing facts and stories that gave a great backstory to why many of the wines outperformed their neighbors. While they make stunning Grand Crus and Premier Crus, one wine that always stands out as a bargain to me is the Côte de Beaune-Villages. A bit larger-scaled, more rustic wine with darker fruits more apparent, spice notes, and an earthier bent, this offering is a great showcase of what Domaine Drouhin can do and of the subtle differences between the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune.

2007 Robert Craig Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon
Review Date: 10-20-2010
I have been a fan of Robert Craig for a long time. The Robert Craig winery was founded by Bob Craig in 1992 after a successful stint as general manager of Hess Collection Winery. Known as the "mountain man," Bob Craig has long been a champion of distinctive Cabernet Sauvignon made from vineyards in the highest, most remote reaches of the valley. He's been a pioneer in fashioning Cabernet from mountain vineyards that emphasize ripe fruit, supple tannins and early balance and integration. Bob's belief in the importance and significance of mountain vineyards led him to spearhead the campaign to have Mt. Veeder designated as a special appellation in 1999. He consulted on a similar matter for the Spring Mountain appellation. I share Bob's belief and passion for mountain-grown Cabernet because the sloped vineyards, along with the rocky, mineral-deprived soil, force the vines to work hard to receive water and nutrients, resulting in smaller, more concentrated grapes. These grapes generally have deeper, more complex and powerful fruit, which is why the mountain vineyards of Spring, Howell, Veeder, Atlas Peak and Diamond Mountain Districts are all well known for making powerful and distinctive Cabernet Sauvignons. I am convinced that the best California Cabernet Sauvignons.
